bricks wanted?
Team Twiizer member bushing has posted another article at hackmii, since the article is short, I will post it all here.
Quote:
To continue with the theme of my last post on updates and bricking:
I don’t have an actual explanation for any of the 4.2 bricking, and I suspect Nintendo doesn’t really, either — I don’t think they keep a copy of the NAND keys for each device, and I doubt they have any readily-available way of retrieving them. As a matter of personal curiosity, I would be interested in doing a post-mortem on such a Wii myself.
If you have a bricked Wii that fulfills the following requirements:- Worked just fine before the 4.2 update
- Is now unusable after the 4.2 update (black screen, error message from system menu, etc)
- Has an old, vulnerable boot1 (such that BootMii/boot2 could be installed), or
- Has a known set of keys (either from a BootMii NAND backup or running xyzzy at some point in the past)
- Did not have anything too odd done to the system menu or boot IOS (but I’m a bit flexible on this point)
… please let me know. I would be interested in getting a dump of the NAND from the system so I can figure out exactly what caused it to die — if you already had such a dump (and the keys), that would be great, but if I not I could dump it myself (again, assuming you have the keys or it’s old enough that I could install BootMii/boot2 with a flash programmer.)

I am not sure if this qualifies (so i wont muddy hackmii with the post), but i was handed this unit to take a look at:
Wii Region: PAL (au)
Modified: No
Opened: No
Softmod: No
Freeloader: Yes
Last game attempted to play: Wii Sports resort USA (can't confirm if this was the culprit or not)
Symptom: No video output, does not "spin up" a game, local or imported
up, down, left, right GC control service mode results: Console recognises service mode and thus spins up a game but still with no video (or dash revision)
Any use?

Yeah sounds like reagion mismatch brick. Get a PAL game with a newer firmware and update... though that should prove difficult at the moment since Wii Sports resort is etremely new.

@LittleJonny Team Symbiote : Possibly a stub ios brick... This wii ever downgraded from 4.0/4.1/4.2 down to 3.2 or 3.3 ?
One such way to reproduce the problem
1. Upgrade a wii to 4.0/4.1/4.2 (operation leaves IOS 30, 50 and in case of 4.2 IOS 60 stubbed)
2. Downgrade to 3.2/3.3/3.4 or in case of 4.2 case 4.0 or 4.1
3. Using a game disc update to a intermediate system menu version... Result is brick....
two such examples,
->4.X->3.2/3.3->3.4 (using game disc)
->4.2->3.2/3.3/3.4->4.0 (using game disc)

Are there any game discs with 4.0?

I don't think now there is but possibly will be in the near future... maybe 4.1 or 4.2 instead of 4.0 but of course will be.
I just wanted to abstract the case a little bit.

I'd say they'll go straight to 4.2, they'll want to get it out to as many Wii's as possible as soon as possible, even though all its "fixes" have been beaten already.

Still, the scenario will be the same when online update came with another system menu ios while discs are released with 4.X updates on them.
